Anime NYC Recap and Other News

Hello everyone!

So Logan and I were fortunate to have won two free weekend passes from Japan Society here in NYC to the fabulous event, Anime NYC.  The event is run by Crunchy Roll, and it turned out pretty well.  There was a wide variety of panels to attend, and some of them were out-of-this-world.  At the same time, there were some panels that could have been better, but I'm not one to complain when one of my favorite animes was featured!

So, I think I was a little behind on some things anime, but I feel sufficiently caught up now that I met some other die-hard fans of the genre.  At the con, I found out that there is finally going to be a reboot of the Fruits Basket anime (THANK GOD--the first one was not the best), there is a new Fruits Basket manga series, you can watch a dubbed version of the live action Fullmetal Alchemist featuring the original English cast on Netflix, and much more.

Here's a first look into the new Fruits Basket anime:

All in all, the con was great, and I definitely had a favorite panel, which was the "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Special Event."  The English dub voice of Edward, Vic Mignogna, was there and he was so friendly and made the panel a great experience.  I also liked that he engaged with fans and seemed super into the show he voiced.

Another great panel we saw was one of the two J-Pop panels (no pics allowed here, so no pics for the blog on this one).  This was SUPER cool because we got to hear from some of the singers who contributed great music to famous shows like Dragon Ball Z, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and others.  A very exciting event to attend.

Also, Artist Alley was phenomenal, featuring some great original fan artwork that I would totally have purchased more of, had I not been in a starving student sort of situation. ;)  We also had the opportunity to befriend one of the people who was running a booth on Artist Alley, which was fun.  Overall, it was a friendly, welcoming, and fun environment to be in.

Another thing worth mentioning is the fantastic cosplayers we saw.  If you'd like to check some of those out, the best place to look is probably AnimeNYC's Facebook page. The con also featured many cosplay get togethers that allowed a bunch of, for example, Sailor Moon cosplayers to round up and be awesome together.

AnimeNYC also boasted some great booths selling merch like this:

Great Cowboy Bebop poster.

Your Name was one of the best films of 2017!

Gotta have your classic Inuyasha.

There was so much more to say about Anime NYC, but those are my highlights.  We look forward to hopefully going again next year.  Tell us what you thought of this post in the comments below.  Thanks for reading, and ciao for now!
