Ten Reasons Why the Eagles are So Amazing

*This post is part of a series of the top bands in what I believe to be "Classic Rock."*

Hey everyone!  I really love the Eagles and always have, so I thought I'd do a post about why I think they're so cool. ;)  See my ten reasons why below and comment if you agree/disagree.

1. Their biggest hit

They created one of the best songs ever to date, and that song contains one of the best guitar solos arguably ever.  Can you guess which song I'm talking about?  Yeah, it's "Hotel California."  This is the most enchanting guitar-based song I know of and it somehow does not lose its charm no matter how popular or how overplayed it is.

In case you needed a refresher... :)

2.) Music you can chill to

If you really just want to chill, you can always go to the Eagles for super relaxing songs.  I don't know how they do it, but their music brings you to a more peaceful state of mind.

3.) The Emotional Impact

Their music contains so much emotion.  Take, for example, the song, "Desperado."  For those of you who have heard the song, I'm almost certain that if you didn't cry during the song, you were pretty close.  It somehow speaks more through the music than it does through the lyrics, which really shows the band's musical talent, in my opinion.

4.) Big Sellers!

They've sold around 130 million records, making them one of the top 20 best-selling bands of all time.  Wow!  People love the Eagles, and it shows.  In fact, they've sold more records than people/bands like Ed Sheeran, Aerosmith, the Bee Gees, Adele, and others.

5.) All the Breakups and Comebacks...

Despite band drama, they keep getting back together.  So, perhaps you are aware that the Eagles had a definite break-up from 1980, from which they had a major comeback in 1994 with their album, Hell Freezes Over.  Hmmm... wonder why they called it that after a 14 year break-up? :)  But that's not all, these guys have had band members fired, have attempted to sue one another, and had other conflicts.  However, they keep on keepin' on to hold out for "The Long Run."  Maybe they didn't always get along, but they still succeeded at making some of the best music of our time.

6.) Tons of big hits

They have way more than just one major hit--"Hotel California" isn't their only one, friends.  You've probably heard some of the other hits, but if not, they include "Tequila Sunrise," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," "Heartache Tonight," "Already Gone," "The Best Of My Love," "Lyin' Eyes," "I Can't Tell You Why," "Take it to the Limit," "The Long Run," "Take it Easy," and others.  So, I think they've proven that they're pretty consistently a talented band.

7.) Unlike, the "new kid in town," these guys have been around for a long time

They have been around since the 1970s and are still outrageously popular today. I mean, it's not just old people who like songs like "Hotel Califormia." As a matter of fact, I know a fair amount of 20 somethings, teenagers, 30 somethings, etc. that can sing along pretty well to at least one Eagles song.

8.) They have a unique sound

They have a unique sound that actually has roots in "rhythm and bluessoulbluegrass, and [music from preceding] rock [bands' music]. (See Here)"  Many have described the Eagles' type of sound as "California Rock," which I think about accurately sums it up.

9.) Because... California :)

This is a freebee for me, but the Eagles were initially formed in California.  Being a Californian, this makes me pretty proud.

10.) More than just guitar, bass, and drums

The instruments played in their songs go beyond a three or four chord song played on guitars.  The Eagles have constantly defied expectations, using instruments like the mandolin, banjo, pedal steel guitar, and others.  They also use chord progressions that are a little more interesting than your average run-of-the-mill rock music.

That's all I have to say for now. :)  Keep rocking our socks off, Pragmus fans.
